sonur, you said that you used the trick with the central diff locked to be RWD, i tough about trying this on my rav4 back then but did not do it, other sources on the web suggest it may end up breaking the collar that locks both front and rear axle in the transfer case.

As you did it on another car with a similar transmission what is your experience after doing this? can it handle abuse and high power. I might try this on my gt4 but dont want to risk breaking it.
thanks

I would think that gt4 would handle it, Im not so shore about my swap tough v6
to rav4 will probably end in tears but hey its just for fun...

Ive done that center diff lock thing to so many cars... just to have fun

2x ae95 4afe 1600cc, used both like that for a year without braking anything
Only have picture of the first one

ae101 wagon that came with 7afe engine but had thrown a rod so I swapped
in a 4afe 1999 engine driven 30.000km and used the 7afe ECU, worked grate!
used that for about 8months and never broke anything also skidding it on 17" was
amazingly easy.

Then my G6 4wd never broke anything and that was both with 20v silvertop and
20v blacktop engine  I also lunched the G6 lika a mad man when it was 4wd,
just revved the thing to heaven and released  the clutch and spun all 4 tiers,
did that so many times I cant remember.
Riding 18" just finished the 4wd build in the picture. back in 2006 I think

Then the shit box camry that had so much torque but also never broke anything
and I was trying to see if I could brake something when I owned it to see how much
abuse it could handle. Riding 16" in the pic

Then my Rwd al25 Tercel wagon wich I had for two years and somehow I completely forgot about
until now (just sold it this year) I had plans to put the Turbo 4age engine into it
with my T50 gearbox but I never found a spare tercel to keep as parts so I sold it and
bought the saloon, I also never broke anything in that and I made coilover suspension
in front and koni adjustables in rear and cut the orginal springs..

Just how ugly it looked when I picked it up (friends driving)

Parket next to my G6

Summer mode

Winter mode

Then onto other stuff, found a picture of the Avalon when I picked it up and
wrecked it the same day and sold almoast 1tonn of Toyota parts so Africa (not joking)

Well,

I was so tired, I´ve  just been sleeping after the exam´s day and night   Smile  almoast broke
my own record of sleeping for 44hours with couple of wake ups for 15min max in between
just gone into the kitchen to drink water then back to bed..

Last night I finally did go out for couple of hours

Took off all the shit that came with it

Went and picked up the v6 in another garage I keep all my Toyota parts

Why dont they make the cars little bit bigger, this is so close together

e250 gearbox finally off the 3sfe

I think its going to be a close call on the v6

Through the 3sfe into the corner next to one of my 4age engine

I was hoping the 3sfe flywheel would fit the v6 but it dosent

Took the hedders and EGR related stuff off the engine to make room for the e250

Then fitted the e250 to the v6

I have to take the geabox apart and fit it again, I cant see anything whats going on
in the back its hitting something and the gearbox has to go lower in the back about
1-1.18" or close to 3cm, then theres room for the new hedders or I think so..

So It fits some of the engine block bolts and one dowel pin fits, I have to get a
flywheel of 3vz v6 engine out of 4runner or something, I have 235mm clutchdisk
so only thing needed to finish now is grinding what ever it is in the back that is stopping
the bearbox from going lower and then I can do the hedders..

Hope you guys enjoy, I did..

Thanks you guys  heh

This stuff cind of hard to do Im always alone at this, Its going to take some time,
I also have to make metal plates to bolt to the back of the block and to the gearbox
to secure the center diff component on the gearbox to the block so It wont brake out and
destroy the center diff housing..

So as I go along stuff keep adding to the "to do list" and the list is getting longer each day
I was trying to do this from parts I already have but Im sure I will have to buy something
along the way, I have to use the 3sfe flywheel and have the holes bored out to fit the v6
crank bolt holes because I think the 3vz flywheel wont fit into the e250 bellhousing and also
align the starter teeths.

Man is this going to be fun when done, cant wait!!

Picking it up where I left it last time

Bolted the center differential off the gearbox

The red circle are the bolts holes I can use and the blue circle is
filled with gunk I have to clean it out to see if I can use it.

Fitting the gearbox to the engine

Everything thus far made me smile

Also the bellhouse end of the block fits perfectly with
the center diff part bolted up almoast to perfect.

Like its made for 4wd

But then I messured the center diff housing to the back of the block

Messuring the center of the long axle fork to the best clearing spot on the block is 7cm

And then I messured from center inside the center diff to the outside and its 11cm
So I need 4cm more room to fit the center diff  pale

I dont know how thick the engine block is, does anyone know? have picture of it maybe?

And to top it off I noticed this shit and just wanted to blow my head off

I can actually fix this part but I will have to pick up my wallet for that, that broken
ring is the center differential locker with out that in there I cant lock the center
but the 4wd system works so I could just use it like that and skip the Rwd stuff

I looked into the 3sfe engine and its not good, the oil in it is filled with water
so that engine need rebuild if to use it

Im thinking about going full 4agte with 4afe block right now, 4cm of more room is
way to much to grind out of the block and also grinding off the center diff housing
is not an option because Ive done that when I was trying to fit the stock 4age block
to 4wd gearbox and the diff housing is just 1cm thick and I went trough it!

My best option now is the 4agte with 4afe block because I already have everything.

But any suggestions from you guys what to put in the saloon of my list of
swaps on page1 ?

I want to cry I don\'t know

I was looking for maybe half an hour befor I posted

then looked for 15min more after I posted and found this picture of emty 1mz

I went out to try to messure the block thickness and the best spot I found was about 15mm

I also made some calls around town to see if I could find a spare 1mz for cheap and I
surprisingly found out that I have the only 1mz in my country, apparently the Avalon I
bought had been imported but never got registered and just rotted away in the owners
hands, so If I daringly grind out of the block the room I need for the center diff, I might
destroy the engine..

Lucky me..  I could try to find a 3vz camry engine and use the block only and move
everyhing from the 1mz to the 3vz block but I have no clue if everything fits
and bolts right up or not... Im screwed...

Mad ...

I spent an hour today measuring everything and there is no way the center diff will fit
the 1mz exept cutting a hole into the engine block and alter the oil pan and weld it up
to close it so im putting the 1mz back to storage for now and focus more on swap nr.2

4age with 4afe engine block...

I will pick up the v6 some day and make it 4wd, I will do It I tell ya!!

Now I also got a surprise deadline to finish this 4wd swap

My fiances car is a Daihatsu Cuore 1.0 Twincam daily driver a complete beast pirat

Its manual and weighs 700kg, the headgasket is bleeding water into the oil, its
been doing that for two months now and Im just waiting for the gasket to go
completely then Im going to swap into it one of my 4age Twincam engines  Razz

I bought the Cuore two years ago to do this 4age swap
to it but I had been given false info on what was wrong with it, the guy told me the
engine had gone but all it needed was a new battery the old one couldnt crank fast
enough for the engine to start, lucky me I got it for cheap and It has been the best
daily driven car I have owned, you can park it everywhere and it fits everywhere  Laughing

So this is it, I have propably about a month maybe two to do the 4wd swap into
the saloon befor my fiance car brakes down, we need two cars alive to do our daily
chores other wise we are screwed...

Enjoy, or at least I hope you do

Hi Sonur, it's sad to go that far with the 1mz-fe without having sucess, you helped a lot more people than you think by sharing this. More research with other bellhousing compatible engines might yeld results.

Thanks for commenting

I know this will come in handy for someone out there,
If not Its a good reading material for a fellow Toyota enthusiast Razz

I went out again last night to clean up

Bolted the center diff back on the e250

Got my box of engine mounts and picked up the 4wd bits and vacum diff locker

Went to pick up my E57 AE95 Touring wagon gearbox for A engine blocks 3a,4a,5a,7a

Compaired it to the E250 box

Its got the same differential inside and what im told its got same gear ratio and gears.

Has the same clutch axle and both use the same clutch disk 225-235mm

So next up, check on 4afe engine nr.2

This is what I call burning signs, or head sign

And that the couse, rod bearrings

cylender 2-3-4

Probably not going to use any of this stuff

To be continued...

More stuff....

I keep couple of 4age engines in my basement

My 4year old daughter wanted to help me out  Very Happy

I always wanted to know how I would look like if I where a girl, now I know!
She is a mirror image of me when I was a kid, sometime It freeks me out...

I doug out complete 4age head, 4age oilpump, 4age rods and pistons and more accessories

And one clean looking crank

These are some of my piston collection, I cant find two more late bigport 4agze rods like
those on the bottom, they are 42mm crank size all other are 40mm If my memory is correct.

But it dosent matter Im not going to use them now,,

x4 4age engines

More room now

Found two more clutches and what looks to be a home made 4age turbo manifold

And I went to pick up 6 more clutches I had in my Toyota garage, trying to find
the right diameter and spline count and 215mm size disk, If I cant find it I will
have the Rav4 clutch disk mashined down from 235 to 215mm to fit my flywheel.

Put the 4age stuff inside the garage until next time

Went to buy that special 14mm star shocked

To be continued.. again...

nice work,
can you not a hold of a 3sgte or a 3sge clutch and flywheel?

surely they will be able to handle the power better?

Thanks for the comment

They clutch spring load are not so much different from the 3sfe clutches
I had a 3sgte clutch in my Blacktop engine but when I sold it to one of my
friends he somehow broke one of the clutch load spring, and in my Silvertop
engine I had a Hiace turbo diesel van clutch and It was really good...
I had both of those clutch disks machined down to fit the flywheel
thats the case with the flywheel on the 4age crank Its only available with
215mm diameter max but the 3sfe flywheel goes to 240mm in the 2002model

Just when I was reading your comment It got me thinking why not machine
the 3sfe flywheel to fit the 4age crank? The same thing I was going to do
to have it fit the 1mz...

then I dont have to think about machine down some clutch in the future...

I hope something good will come off this in the beginning of new year 2014  ROFL!

Would you mind doing a write up on the 20v 4wd, I've been wanting to do this for a while and would to know how you did it?

Yes I could do a write up off the 4wd 20v
I will do It next time Im in the mood and post it up here in this forum.

I went out to the garage this morning

completely tear down both of the 4afe engines and carefully stored everything

Those are so burned out

And those are so rusty, I had a big trouble getting them out of the cylenders

Just measuring the cylenders with a set of 4age pistons for fun

I just finished sanding the rusty cylenders in the rusty 4afe then
next is sanding the block down and paint it then honing the cylenders

Im having major problem with finding a good clutch, no matter what route I
pick I have to machine some of it down to fit, I cant use the 3sfe flywheel
because its to big and I can use the stock 200mm 4age flywheel if im only
doing the Rwd mode, Ive done 200mm befor with 4wd and it was a horror
the 4afe flywheel is 215mm but it has 6holes and the 4age 8holes, the 7afe
flywheel goes to 225mm and it also has 6holes, no matter what I do I think
I will end up having the car Rwd... Im doint this as cheap as I possibly can

I might have to find a 4wd 7afe engine just to rob the flywheel and clutch assembly
and then try to reuse one of the 4afe crank to fit the flywheel on that
this is getting out of hands just from the start here, having no money spending
polisy is killing me  Laughing why didnt they just have everything with 6holes!!!!

4age and 8hole 200mm flywheel

Next up is to check out on that busted 3sfe to see if I could clean it and fix the
head gasket and bolt everything together again and maybe have it on stanby
If this 4age goes south...

Man my head is spinning around these engines....

Ahh the rust... but rebuilding to rwd over 4wd wouldn't be too bad. Depends what you wanna do with the car essentially. 4wd would be badass, but maybe it's best to just use the 4age flywheel and keep it cheap.

Im with you on that one, Im probably going to have it rwd right from the beginning anyway...

I set the goal today to find out whats up with that 3sfe engine and to see if I could
make it good with less monney then building the 4age/4afe with clutch issue, 3sfe makes
about 133hp by the registration note that I took out of the rav4 and if I go with that
I dont have to think about the clutch issue no more and I only need to fab up one
motor mount to fit it in the corolla the rest is about the same as doing the 4age 4wd swap.

I went to pick up couple of corolla, Camry and Carina E axles that im selling and they ar all the same!!

Then I started on the 3sfe engine

It was so oiled up on the out side, Im blaming the valve cover seal for that or an O ring
on the camshaft leaking inside and on the timing belt place

Even oil on the back off the engine and the gearbox was also covered in oil

Im seriously thinking about turboing this engine

I need new electric harness or engine loom?

This is the battery connector on the left hand side behind the intake,
thats not going to fly in the corolla altough I would just move it, I make my
own engine harness me and electric wires are best buddies I love it!! (Im not kidding)

Finally got the intake manifold off and the engine loom

Making my way to the injectors

They are 220cc 13.5ohms injectors

I have a set of Supra 312cc 13.4ohms that would fit like a glove

And also a set of I think Supra or 3sgte 385cc 2.8ohms and I have a volt changer for them

Tina turned the engine and made a mess

Big lump on the oil pan there

And we are inside

So im lucky, theres no water mixed with the oil inside the engine and also
there was no water inside the oilpan so im thinking I might have been looking
at the oildipstick thats in the 4efe engine that was in the corolla but not the 3sfe
Im feeling stupid now  geek

Little bit burned but I checked the rod and crank play and theres none

I found a new 3sge headgasket and my 3sgte rods

I actually tought I had lost them, they have been missing for two years now
and I just found them burried in a box of 4age pistons I took one out of the
box and thought to my self "aint no way these are 4age rods"

This is a 3sfe rod to comparesens

Im looking at doing the 3sfe up just cheap fix it for now but later I so
whant to do it turbo because I have so much that fits, Turbo, hedders,
downpipe, injectors, FMU 12:1 new in box, standalone ECU, 6 sets of
intercoolers 2 sets of piping and probably more stuff if I look into my junk...

Im still trying to rap my head around this, cant deside wich engine to use  scratch

But im glad its down to two engines now, and so im thinking which one would make
me happy the longest? I like the 4age alot but the 3sfe was making really good
torque in the shit box camry and sideway I never had to change from 3rd to 2nd gear
just floored it and the torque played its part..

Hmmmm  Shake My Head

3sfe + 3sgte rods + turbo + 4wd train = hell of a lot of fun

Thanks you guys  Razz

Ive been looking for stuff for the 3sfe engine on ebay..

3sgte pistons and rings
rod and crankshaft bearrings
timing belt kit with waterpump

Im going to let go off my wallet any day now hopefully this one time
and go all the wayvwith the 3sfe and make it ready for turbo later on.

I went back into the garage last night and did litte bit more in there

Fitting the e250 rav gearbox to the corolla 4wd subframe

Actually fits nice, need one new gearbox mount in the front or fab the old one

Im just glad it actually fits the subframe, Im going to morrow to see how much
a gasket kit for the head only costs at my local dealer if to much for my taste
I will go on ebay and buy it there and wait for it to arrive. Im just worried that
my fiances car is going to be out soon...

So now in the mean time I think I will be making the new engine loom  Cool

Thanks for the comment  grr

I found a rav4 on sale and went to look at It, took It for a spin and Its good on power
It´s really good 4wd system in these cars, Im looking forward to this being in a corolla

I went to pick up my turbo hedders from a 3sgte mr2 1994, they fit nicely

Then gave the 3sfe a bath

Then I desited to sell my saloon I had bought for this project and try find another one
that dosent have to be painted and something I can just swap engines and drive it
so I sold it to my friend that bought my G6 4wd

He desited to rebuild the stock 4efe engine and give it to his girlfriend

Cleaned the garage just a little bit, 4efe and 3sfe side by side ready for more action

Hope you enjoy, going to look at another saloon this weekend in a nearby town...

cant wait to see what you buy next, as long as you drop the 4wd 3s-fe / 3s-gte system into it

OMG...

Been super busy lately

Ive looked at 5 saloons with no luck, all of them to rusty

Then school started again

I found what I want to build for a 4age engine to paly with inside the garage

Want this in my car, cant believe no one has taken this yet!
Ive been in this shcool for 7years and every year I say to myself
this will be gone by the end of the semester! but its still here  Laughing

Picked up this amplifier for my friend who lives out of town,
he is a farmer I call him Jesus because he is just like him

Picked this up from the bone yard, going to make a engine washer tub

Found a dead bird in my house, my damn cat

Opened up the 4efe engine from the saloon, for my friend and sent him these images

1mm groove, this is totalled, going to find a replacement engine

Like someone has been biting the piston  Razz

Went to a friend of mine who has a extra 7afe and 4wd transmission for sale
took pictures of the engine mounts, they look like same as rav4, going to make
him an offer any day now and see if I can use something from this..

Saw a kitten  in a parket rav4, Burned it down!!

Ran from the police and bought 6meters of steel tubing to make a tow dolly
This looks like a bus spaceship

Tow dolly in mind

So I can tow this wagon home from the farm out side of town
Im getting it almoast for free but Im grabing it to make monney
or if the body is in really good shape I might end up using it for the big swap

But I would rather want a saloon but time will tell what will happen

Im trying to make up my mind about what to buy from ebay along with
what Im going to use 4age or 3sfe, everybody has been pushing me toward
3sfe turbo but im so scared of the transmission if its broken from stock use
how will it be when 250+ hp goes through it...
