PostSubject: auxilary belts   Wed Aug 15, 2012 4:53 am

i noticed on last mot certificate it says that the auxilary belts are worn advise replacing.

Anyone got any idea what they are? is it the alternater belt?fan belt?powersteering belt?

it does squeel sometimes when im turning off a curb or something so is it powersteering belt?

Auxiliary belts are the belts used to drive the alternator, power steering pump, water pump and air-con compressor, as opposed to the toothed timing belt which drives the camshafts. Depending on who you talk to (and how old they are) they can be called auxiliary belts, accessories belts, drive belts, v-belts serpentine belts, fan belts etc etc.

Given that you're getting squealing in tight turns I'd definitely be looking at the power-steering belt, but from memory it is the belt closest to the motor so you'd have to remove at least one other belt too so might as well do all 3 at once (crank/idler/air-con, crank/alternator/water-pump, water-pump/power-steering)
