| Recently brought a 1995 Corolla ae101 running a 4age 20v silvertop as a bit of a project/daily driver. Always been into my Toyota's (won't buy anything else!) it's a great car with decent service history including recent plugs filters etc having covered around 66k miles. The only mods to the engine i can see is a full exhaust system including manifold. My problem is that on part throttle it will ocasionally hesitate/misfire and at tickover it sits at around 1500 rpm. Full throttle is fine. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Sorry if a bit long winded. | |

| a friend on another forum said this about your problem...
Sounds like a dirty idle air control valve (iacv). There are links to how to clean them. You need to find it by the throttle bodies and flush it with brakekleen. Aside from that id say check afm make sure everything is plugged in right and last would be Ecu... | |

| my friend (kaitaiya) said this....
sorry for the delay, going through my emails and found this one from ishaq. rereading i noticed you have a silver top. they have a knows trouble with the capacitors inside the ECU. i just repaired my friends ECU with new caps because his car wouldn't run at all. i had a similar problem with my blacktop, but mine would run till 1500 rpm and cut out. it was a bad ECU, but i haven't had a chance to open it up and check. it's probably bad caps too, but when i get a chance to get to it i will.
here's a link to one of the sites that show information on the caps. http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=87031
and here's a link to cleaning the IAC valve. http://4age20v.blogsome.com/2008/03/...4age-20v-iscv/
hope it helps! JD | |

| Hi. Sorry for such a late reply, been really busy. Turns out someone had played with the throttle position sensor, put it back to where it should be and it's been fine ever since. My user name came from a Glanza V i previously had and it's stuck ever since. My Levin is actually matt black, really dodgy paint job and needs re doing when funds allow. | |
